Google Android App Update - Slide Sharing Comes To Hangouts, Keep Turns Notes Into Docs

Google Android app team gets busy by introducing a slew of updates for Slides and Keep to compete with Microsoft’s Office apps

The team at Google responsible for its app suite has been quite busy on introducing updates for its Android OS. Two particular apps, Google Slides and Google Keep received updates; Slides got the bigger one of the two. The updates are a part of Google strengthening its productivity app ecosystem, primarily to compete with Microsoft’s offerings.

The Google Slide update makes presentations to be delivered over a Hangouts video call. The slide sharing feature makes it possible from either your Android phone or tablet to share slides in an on-going call.

To do that, head over to your Slides app, select the slides you want to present and select the "present" button. You will get an option to present it via Google Hangouts, tap that and it is good to go. Of course users have not received the new update as of yet and it is being rolled out gradually. To download the new update, head over to the Play Store and download Slides update.

Google is hoping to turn Slides into a powerful PowerPoint competitor and be able to replace the presentation tool from Microsoft altogether. The set of features that Google has introduced indicate that the company is geared more towards Cloud, whereas Microsoft’s PowerPoint utilizes both. Slides has recently received offline functionality and the recent update will allow the app present to any screen via Chromecast or AirPlay give it an edge over PowerPoint.

The other app that got the update is the note-taking software, Google Keep. The feature might be termed as a small integration, albeit a long awaited one. The new Keep update available from the Play Store will let users copy (export) their notes to Google Docs with a couple of touches. This integration means that users do not need to copy/paste the notes again or rewrite the quick ideas that they initially jotted down in Keep. If the Play Store update does not work for you, then you can choose to download the update from APK Mirror as well.
